This lovely campfire was welcoming us after a sunset boat ride on Zambezi nearly three years ago..
Zambia/Zimbabwe
Between Zambia and Zimbabwe there is a railway bridge called Victoria Falls Bridge. This magnificent bridge was built 1904-1905 and at that time it was the highest bridge in the world! Bridge was built in England and shipped in parts to Africa. It was supposed to be a part of Cape to Cairo railway enterprise. That project was never finished. Anyway I think it’s a real beauty.
Zambia
Few years ago my husband and I stayed two nights on Bovu Island. There lives a couple who offers simple accomodation to travellers. In the evening it’s possible to enjoy a hot meal in an open living/dining room. There we had some extra company from genets which are living on the island. Genets came to see if they could have got any treats from the table.
Zambia/Botswana
There is quite a lot traffic between Zambia and Botswana even though those two countries have common border only a little bit over 100 meters and that border is in the middle of Zambezi River. There has been talk about building a bridge there at Kazungula for years or maybe decades because there is no bridge. Seriously. No bridge. All the lorries (as in the pictures) and stuff are transported over the river by ferry boat. And they might have to wait pretty long to get to the other side.
Now some serious plans have been made to finally start the construction but that has waken up Zimbabwe. Zimbabwe doesn’t want to loose revenues and denies Zambia and Botswana having any common border. Interesting dilemma. So is there coming a bridge soon? Who knows… TIA.

While visiting the falls I didn’t expect a lush rainforest because it was a dry season. But I should have known better. Going down to the second gorge to see the falls from the riverbank we walked through a beautiful and lush rainforest. Everywhere else the nature was dry and brown but down there the falls and Zambezi river gave so much moisture that the forest was very much alive.
Bovu Island, Zambia
Using mokoro is the traditional way to move along Zambezi River. It’s also the only way to get to Bovu Island.

I’ve taken this photo from the top of the Mosi oa Tunya aka Victoria Falls. The beauty of the falls mesmerised me.
